Montgomery is the small town on Lake Conroe’s south shore that gave Montgomery County its name: founded in July 1837, it became the county’s first seat the same year the county was created, and it sits right against the lake, with the gated communities of Walden on Lake Conroe and April Sound just outside town. Lake-house country, not RV-park country

Montgomery does not have the RV-resort density of a snowbird destination. What it has instead is lake houses, and a lot of them keep an RV on the property, parked on a driveway or plugged in at a dock pedestal, for weekend trips, hunting season, or full-time lake living. Walden on Lake Conroe has been a fixture since 1972, planned for roughly 5,200 to 5,300 dwellings with its own golf club (operating since 1976), a 536-slip marina, and a private racquet center. April Sound, a gated community on about 1,000 acres of rolling, tree-covered ground on the lake’s south shore, adds another 27 holes of golf and its own marina and pool facilities. Both put RVs on dock-adjacent lots and in driveways throughout the community, which is different repair terrain than an RV park: 30- or 50-amp dock power instead of a pedestal in a numbered space, and community gate check-in instead of a park office.

Storage is the other half of the Montgomery-area market. What we see most on Montgomery-area rigs

Fridges and AC units stressed by summer heat and off-level parking. Lake lots here are not always flat, and a rig that has sat noticeably off level, even briefly, can show cooling problems on an absorption fridge that have nothing to do with a failed part. Roofs and seals tested by a real wet season. Sealant that dried and cracked under Texas sun gets its test every year from Montgomery County’s wettest months and from hurricane season, June through November. A spring inspection before lake season catches most of this before it becomes a ceiling stain.

Storm-related surges. A dock-connected rig left plugged in through a grid outage, like the ones that hit a large share of the Conroe electric network after Hurricane Beryl in July 2024, is exposed to the surge that comes with power restoration. A hardwired surge protector at the dock pedestal is cheap insurance against a dead converter, AC board, and fridge board all at once.

Owners headed out of town for a stretch can have work done with the rig accessed by prior arrangement: photo documentation, phone approval on the written quote, and video function-tests are normal for us here.

The standard trip fee covers Montgomery and the lake communities around it.
